Privacy Policy for the “BIBM Congress” App

This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is processed when you use the “BIBM Congress” mobile app (the “App”). Personal data means any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
This Privacy Policy applies only to the native BIBM Congress app for iOS and Android. It does not automatically apply to the website or to other digital services unless this is expressly stated.
The App is an offline-first event and information app for the BIBM Congress 2026. It provides information such as the congress programme, exhibitors, floor plans, team and contact details, the imprint, and privacy information. The App is technically read-only in relation to the website and retrieves content exclusively from the WordPress website at https://bibmcongress.com.

What Data Is Processed When You Use the App
When you use the App, certain technical data is processed so that content can be retrieved and displayed correctly. This may include your IP address, the date and time of access, language settings transmitted by your device, technical request information, and the resources requested by the App.
The App retrieves content from the WordPress website at https://bibmcongress.com. This includes, in particular, information about the programme, exhibitors, floor plans, team and contact details, and legal texts. The App accesses this content on a read-only basis. It does not write data back to the website and does not provide any account, registration, form submission, or editing functionality in relation to WordPress.
In order to improve usability, the App also stores certain information locally on your device. This includes, in particular, favourites, language settings, and an encrypted offline cache of previously loaded content. These local functions make it possible to display content more quickly and to keep already loaded content available even when no active internet connection is available.
The App also uses technical connection and security functions in order to establish secure communication with the server and verify the connection to the correct host.
What the App Does Not Do
The current version of the App does not provide user accounts, registration, login, password reset, or account deletion functionality.
The current version of the App does not use analytics tools, advertising technologies, crash reporting SDKs, performance monitoring SDKs, profiling tools, A/B testing tools, or tracking technologies.
The current version of the App does not send push notifications and does not process push tokens.
The current version of the App does not process payment data, does not offer in-app purchases, and does not use payment providers within the App.
The current version of the App does not use a WebView.
The current version of the App does not request camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos, or file permissions. On Android, the App uses only the INTERNET permission.
Local Storage on Your Device
The App stores certain data locally on your device in order to provide the functions you actively use. This includes favourites, language selection, app settings, and cached content. Local storage is encrypted. The cryptographic key used for this purpose is stored in the secure system storage areas provided by the respective operating system.
Favourites remain stored until you remove them or uninstall the App. Language settings remain stored until you change them or uninstall the App.
Previously loaded content may be stored in an encrypted offline cache. The App checks the freshness of cached content within a 24-hour window. However, cached data is not automatically deleted after 24 hours. It remains available until it is overwritten, manually cleared, reset within the App environment, or removed by uninstalling the App.
Server Logs and Security
When the App connects to the server, technical server logs may be created in order to ensure the secure and stable operation of the App and to detect and resolve technical faults or security incidents.
Technical access and error logs are stored for 7 days and are then deleted automatically.
If necessary for the investigation of technical faults, misuse, or security incidents, relevant extracts from server logs may be stored separately for a limited period. Such incident-related log extracts are retained only for as long as necessary for the respective purpose and for no longer than 90 days.
Recipients of Data
Personal data processed in connection with the App may be accessed by BCF – Building Congress Forum GmbH and by technical service providers involved in hosting, maintenance, security, or incident handling, where such access is necessary for the operation of the App.
According to the current internal allocation of roles, BCF acts as the responsible entity for the App. The technical hosting provider acts in a supporting role for infrastructure operation. BIBM is treated as host and content or branding partner unless a different contractual arrangement applies.
International Data Transfers
At the current stage, the App is not intended to transfer personal data to countries outside the European Union or the European Economic Area.
Data Retention
Unless a more specific period is stated in this Privacy Policy, personal data is retained only for as long as necessary for the relevant purpose.
In particular:
- technical access and error logs are retained for 7 days;
- incident-related secured log extracts are retained for no longer than 90 days;
- favourites remain stored until removed by the user or until the App is uninstalled;
- language settings remain stored until changed or until the App is uninstalled;
- cached content remains stored until overwritten, manually cleared, reset, or removed by uninstalling the App.
Data Security
The App uses encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections to protect communications with the server. Additional technical measures are used to support secure communication and server verification. Local storage used by the App for favourites, settings, and cached content is encrypted.
Your Rights
You may request information about the personal data processed in connection with your use of the App. You may also request correction of inaccurate data, deletion of data where applicable, restriction of processing, or object to processing in accordance with applicable law. Where the legal requirements are met, you may also request data portability.
If you believe that the processing of your personal data violates applicable data protection law, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority.
